Our nature-based online and virtual courses offer interactive, expert-led training from our partners, GVI and GVI’s subsidiary Bushwise. Online wildlife courses provided by Bushwise are designed to provide the educational theory needed to pass the Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality, and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA) NQF2 certificate exam and gain International Field Guide Association (IFGA) accreditation.

GVI online courses are created in partnership with Richmond School of Professional & Continuing Studies and UNC Charlotte. A digital certificate of completion is awarded on successful completion at no additional cost. All GVI online courses are designed to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relating to Planet and People objectives.

BUSHWISE NATURE & FIELD GUIDING ONLINE COURSES

Introduction to field guiding

This online field guiding course is purely focused on preparing you for your role as a field guide. This includes how to conduct a drive or walking safari, guiding skills and procedures, and most importantly, how to be an ethical field guide.

Nature enthusiast course

Learn about nature, wildlife and ecosystems on this engaging online course. Attend virtual lectures and take part in an interactive learning experience that features expert instructors and lots of opportunities for participant engagement.

Field Guiding online course

A complete 12-week wildlife, nature and field guiding theory course, which allows you to write the Bushwise theory exams. This is the first step in your wildlife career! Accelerate your knowledge of field guiding techniques, wildlife and ecology.

GVI PLANET online courses

Wildlife conservation

GVI’s Wildlife Conservation course aims to equip you with the tools needed to achieve this goal by providing an understanding of the fundamental theories used in the field of terrestrial conservation. You’ll gain the skills needed to analyse protected areas, as well as the different methods of wildlife population monitoring such as camera trapping and conducting wildlife censuses.

Conservation & research

This Conservation and Scientific Research online course will show you how surveys are tied to conservation/management objectives, species identification, environmental impacts, survey planning, survey logistics, and health and safety in the field. The course material is based on GVI’s 25 years of experience in remote locations around the world in close collaboration with local organisations.

Marine conservation

From the microscopic plankton to the mighty blue whale, ocean ecosystems are teaming with a plethora of marine creatures. The marine conservation online course will provide the knowledge and tools needed to understand the intricate balance between sea life and the environment. You’ll learn how these contribute to a functioning marine ecosystem and marine protected areas (MPAs).

Sustainable development

The Careers in Sustainable Development course equips you with a unique toolkit that will enable you to understand the evolving landscape of job opportunities in this purpose-driven sector. Then learn how to improve your personal brand, network and identify job opportunities. You’ll also be provided with application and job interviewing techniques that’ll help you secure your dream job in impact. If you’re already working in a sustainable development job this course can also help you to accelerate your career progress.

Climate crisis & sustainability

We all need access to clean water, nutritious food, and access to reliable power and transportation systems. But these resources need to be effectively managed to ensure that there is enough for everyone and that damage to the environment is minimised or, ideally, eliminated. During the Climate Crisis and Sustainability online course you’ll learn about how to sustainably manage the operations of public or private organisations. Everyone from high school, college and graduate students to mid-career professionals and retired seniors can join.

Leading teams for impact

You know you have what it takes to be a leader. But you need a chance to prove it. How do you get that opportunity? Complete GVI’s Leading Teams for Impact online course to earn your first team leadership role. Study theoretical leadership concepts while developing your own leadership style and learn how to set objectives a team can reliably achieve, give effective feedback, and manage conflict successfully. You will learn about the responsibilities of a team leader and find out how to define risk and conduct a risk assessment.

Foundations in wildlife conservation

While the human population continues to increase, wildlife and biodiversity around the world is on the decline. Learn about the major issues affecting conservation, such as unsustainable consumption of natural resources and the climate crisis. On GVI’s Foundations in Wildlife Conservation online programme you’ll learn about the principles of biodiversity and ecosystem management and how to analyse the interaction between species and their environment.

Foundations in marine conservation

Learn about universal efforts to preserve the world’s largest aquatic ecosystems directly from experts working in the field – and the roles they fulfill to achieve this. You’ll gain knowledge of the terms and techniques used in conservation for activities that include identifying marine species and surveying natural habitats. This online course will also provide you with insight into the importance of team and leadership skills when working with local and international organisations.

Foundations in climate change & sustainability

Complete this online programme to gain an understanding of the importance of maintaining a balance between the earth’s natural resources and economic development. Gain a deeper understanding of how organisations, both public and private, can aim to minimise or eliminate damage to the environment and thereby reduce the effects of climate change. Consider how sustainability can be achieved in business, schools, universities and your own life, and how doing so can help tackle issues.

When you join GVI’s Advanced Marine Conservation Programme you’ll advance your knowledge on the key issues prevalent in marine conservation while learning how to plan for and measure your social and environmental impact and the impact set by organisations in the field.

GVI’s Advanced Wildlife Conservation programme is a complete set of six engaging courses that provide advanced knowledge of how to make an effective contribution to wildlife conservation efforts. Community Impact

Dedicated to gender equality? Keen to improve health across all age groups? Want to reduce plastic pollution or human/animal conflict? Want to help create greater food or water security? You will explore what community development is, how local context impacts program development, best practice when engaging with and implementing community programs, and ethical considerations in community interventions. Did you know that access to justice is a fundamental human right? Yet, millions of people worldwide don’t receive fair access to basic legal services. Globally, there are over 240 million children exploited for labour, while laws in over 20 countries still challenge women’s access to quality reproductive care. Join GVIs Human Rights and Access to Justice Virtual Internship to gain insight into the development of global judicial systems. Alongside accomplished experts and partner organisations, you’ll develop industry skills and an understanding of the challenges faced in human rights advocacy work.
